AutismBC defines Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as “…a lifelong neurodevelopmental difference that impacts all aspects of a person’s life. It is characterized by differences in social communication and interaction and by restrictive and repetitive behaviours, actions, or interests. Every autistic person has unique strengths and support needs which can fluctuate throughout a person’s life.”
This definition barely scratches the surface of what autsim is, let alone what living with it is like. It can be incredibly difficult for autistic people to navigate the world even if they were aware of their diagnosis from a young age. However, most supports for autistic people are aimed at children and families, and there are very few resources for adults or late-diagnosed people.
AutismBC’s mission is to create a more accessible, accepting, and inclusive BC for all autistic people, regardless of age, gender, or diagnostic status. All proceeds from “What Are You Supposed To Do With Your Hands?” will go towards helping AutismBC in this goal. Please consider donating to AutsimBC directly, to show your support.
What Are You Supposed To Do With Your Hands? was produced and filmed on the unceded and ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwxwú7mesh (Squamish), səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations and the Halkomelem speaking peoples. We are grateful to live and work on these lands.
